Speyside Scotch Whisky

Home to some of the greatest names in the world of whisky, Speyside is possibly the most iconic whisky region in Scotland. Huddled around the river Spey is a great concentration of distilleries with names that everyone has heard of. Glenfiddich, The Glenlivet, The Macallan and Balvenie. With fertile valleys for growing plentiful barley and fresh water sources in abundance, it is the perfect location of so many of these famous names. With many of the biggest Speyside distilleries currently expanding production and other smaller brands following suit, it could be said that this is the beating heart of the current Scotch whisky boom. The region is also home to the Speyside Cooperage, the only working one in the UK and not to forget Scotland’s first Malt Whisky Trail. With so many distilleries in the region it leads to an ever-growing array of tastes to suit every whiskey fan. Originally seen as a region for the more floral whiskies, Speyside has welcomed experimentation and branched out to other styles and tastes. Many of the distilleries now try a range of inventive barrel finishing, as well as creating some unique smoky Speyside whiskies.
