Aultmore 25 Year Old

Then oldest bottling of Aultmore is packed with raspberries, candied orange peel, vanilla cream and spiced apple.

Aultmore 25 is a superb example of this lesser-known Speyside distillery. Located in Keith in Moray, the distillery has operated here since the 1800s. Owned today by Dewars which in turn is owned by Bacardi, the 25-year-old is the oldest of all its bottlings.

Aultmore 25-year-old is a traditional Speyside whisky release with lots of earthy oakpersonality and rich flavours derived form its 25 years in cask. Bottled in 2014 at 46% abv it’s a rare opportunity to try the top end of the Aultmore range.

Tasting notes

The official tasting notes reveal that this is a well balanced and intense limited edition whisky that, by its age, has joined a select group of single malt whisky releases.

Aroma
On the nose, you can expect lots of fruit, including pineapple, raisins and banana and it has a pleasant crumbly fudge and buttered bread aroma too.

Taste
On the palate you’ll discover the warm leather and dark plum taste that is associated with Aultmore 25 but also lots of stewed fruit, layers of sticky toffee pudding and plenty of oak spice.

Finish
On the finish you’ll get more banana, plenty of caramel, apple and candied orange peel as well as more of that earthy oak.

This is a fine scotch whisky that deserves to be reserved for special occasions and to celebrate. As a dram, it easily sets out its stall as being from one of the more important distilleries in the region, even though it doesn’t hold the brand recognition that many of its neighbours have right now.

At 25 years old it captures hints of what could lie ahead for Aultmore and reviews have been favourable for this extra-mature stock. It more than stands up to its time in casks and the warm single malt in the bottles ensures each sip represents great value and terrific flavour.
