Benromach 21 YO

With very subtle smoke and excellent sherry influence, this perfectly matured Speyside is what you would expect from the whisky masters of Gordon and MacPhail.

Benromach 21-year-old is a classic single malt from the Speyside distillery. Stuffed with sweet sherry aromas, it was matured in first-fill sherry casks and bourbon casks.

Benromach is no stranger to this combination of casking but it is the careful cask selection, as well as the fine distillation methods employed, that help create the layers of milk chocolate, seville orange and baked apple – all wrapped up in a cloak of soft smoke.

As one of the oldest bottles in the core collection of the distillery’s lineup, this Benromach single malt has a lot of prestige to carry – but it does so easily.

The scent, palate and personality of this single malt are defined by its sweet sherry aromas, but the Benromach 21-year-old is also distinguished by the soft fruit layers that come so easily from the first-fill sherry casks.

Tasting Notes

Aroma

On the nose you can expect lots of orange, apple and cinnamon to introduce you to this fine single malt. The scent is luxourious and inviting – it easily captures the time Benromach 21-year-old has spent in oak.

Palate

The taste is equally complex and elegant, pushing cracked black pepper and spice through the sweeter layers of vanilla, raspberry and seville orange.

Finish

Customers report great satisfaction with the finish on this fruitcake-heavy whisky. The long and deep finish on this Benromach single malt has a wonderful oily mouthfeel that leaves soft smoke, fruit and spice in its wake.

Benromach Distillery is owned today by the esteemed whisky makers Gordon and MacPhail. That company bought it as a closed distillery in 1993, spending four years and many millions bringing it back to life. It reopened in 1997.

With an ABV of 43%, Benromach 21 is a multi-award winning pour.

It has taken silver, gold and double gold medals from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the International wine and Spirits competition, the Scotch Whisky Masters, the International Spirits Challenge as well as becoming the editor’s Choice in issue 177 of Whisky Magazine.

Benromach 21-Year-Old sits comfortably at the top table of the distillery’s extra-matured malts, being surpassed only by the sherry-cask Benromach 40-year-old single malt.
