Highland Scotch Whisky

The highland whisky region of Scotland contains a huge array of distilleries and of course some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe. Being the largest whisky region by area, it covers a vast amount of Scotland. From just north above Glasgow to the far northern tip of the Scottish mainland, throughout this area there are numerous distilleries producing whisky as diverse as the scenery surrounding them. Rather than letting remoteness become a hindrance to their whisky production, many new distilleries have opened in far-flung rural areas. Bringing industry and employment to small communities. Famous names in highland whisky production include Glenmorangie, Clynelish, Dalmore, Oban and Dalwhinnie. As well as smaller, but just as interesting distilleries, like Edradour and Old Pulteney. Whereas it was once possible to give a characterisation to all highland whiskies, now this region offers a broad range of flavours including coastal and salty to rich and complex. The newer distilleries in this region are also experimenting with new flavour profiles, adding to the choices available. With such a variety of whisky styles in this large region, there is something for everyone to savour.
