Glen Scotia 15 year old
A true representation of a Campbeltown single malt. Layers of vanilla on the nose give way to hints of ginger biscuits. The palate is a soft caramel, and the finish lingers as long as the summer days on the Kintyre peninsula. Beautiful.
Glen Scotia 15-year-old is a smooth and rich Campbeltown single malt scotch whisky. It has received a double cask maturation in first-fill and refill American oak barrels. It received a short finish in oloroso sherry which brings lots of plump fruits and citrus peels to the fore.
This is a rich and slightly dry single-malt scotch whisky with a warming spice that builds on its medium weight. It has great depth and complexity, with lots of the wood elements expected from a Glen Scotia bottle.
Tasting notes
The official tasting notes reveal the heavy influence of the vanilla oak contribution from the bourbon casks while the initial nose indicates the complicated palate ahead.
The nose has hints of sea spray and spicy aromatic fruits as well as apricot aromas and baked fruit. Adding water allows a drift towards fruit salad and ginger snap biscuits and the apricot aromas develop and release baked fruit.
The palate is rich and inviting with a smooth and spicy personality that builds on caramelised elements, balanced with warming spice and dark sweet fruit. Expect plump fruits and a broad and medium weight.
Water helps build the finish, increasing the oak taste and slightly dry vanilla oak from the American oak barrels.
The Distillery
Glen Scotia 15-year-old is a wonderful example of what its distiller, Iain McAlister, is doing at Glen Scotia. This Campbeltown single malt scotch whisky offers great depth and flavour and is testament to the power of wood. Its complicated palate and surprisingly dry element allow Glen Scotia 15 to stand apart as a whisky of great provenance.
