Bruichladdich Old Malt Cask 28 YO
An independent Islay bottling from Hunter Laing matured for 28 years. Bottled for their Old Malt Cask series and from just one cask.
Bruichladdich Old Malt Cask 28 is a one-off bottling from Hunter Laing, the Independent bottler based in Glasgow. Hunter Laing has championed Islay single malt whisky alongside all other official Scottish regions for decades.
The Old Malt Cask series is a Hunter-Laing trophy series for the company. It works with distilleries all around Scotland to produce partnership releases that are designed for the whisky connoisseur. It has become a cornerstone of Scottish single malt independent bottling and has raised the bar everywhere it is poured.
Matured in a single refill cask for the entirety of its maturation, this lengthy rest resulted in a whisky that delivers lots of toasted oak, spice, sweetness and an incredibly smooth taste experience.
Distilled in 1991, it was bottled in 2019, allowing this great 28-year-old whisky the chance to reach an even wider audience than its indie Bruichladdich origins.
Official tasting notes
Aroma
You’ll discover lots of vanilla, dark sugar and toasted oak on the nose. These gentle layers belie the full-bodied flavour ahead.
Taste
On the palate, you’ll get a real taste of Islay’s island distillery home with ginger, cinnamon and sweetness on the tongue.
Finish
The age of this whisky delivers a fantastic finish. It’s stuffed with cask-derived spice and oak alongside lots of sweetness.
Bruichladdich is owned today by Remy Martin and it offers a tremendous whisky stable. This bottle makes the price of the whisky incredibly good value. It’s almost unheard of to find a bottle of 28-year-old Scottish single malt at this price point and this can only happen because of the Hunter-Laing approach to bottling rare stock single malt.
