Red Spot whiskey is a premier example of a single pot still and the head of the Spot family. It is the oldest whiskey in the Spot range, at 15 years maturation and is matured in American Bourbon casks, Spanish sherry butts and Sicilian Marsala wine casks. Bottled at cask strength, it’s an extremely complex and flavourful whiskey and rightly sits at the top table of Irish whiskies.
It’s a wonderful cask combination that celebrates all that is great about pot still whiskies – rich, decadent flavours including sweet baked fruit, black pepper and spice, all underpinned by warm honeyed smooth layers. It’s a complex whiskey with lots to reveal in every sip and a bottle that fans return to again and again.
It’s rare to see a bottle of Red Spot gathering dust on a shelf for purchase in a physical store. Such is its popularity, that every release gets snapped up immediately. When this lead bottle was reintroduced after 50 years absence a legion of fans put it at the top of their list. It’s a worthy contender for a place in a collection, but an even more appealing attraction as a rich and decadent pour for that special occasion.
