From its home in Speyside, The Macallan has risen to become one of the most popular and revered whisky brands in the world. It famously builds its personality on sherry casks and wraps each of its prestigious bottles in the honey and citrus flavours that have become synonymous with its name.
This bottle is part of the Double Cask series, an edition which aims to push the boundaries of their traditional casking through the introduction of a second cask. There are five bottles in the Double Cask series. Four of them, the 12-, 15-, 18- and 30-year-old are age statement releases while the Macallan Gold is a non-age-statement blend of whisky of 9- to 15-years vintage. Each of the bottles are a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks carrying the classic Macallan profile and marrying it with the sweet and layered texture of the two cask types.
The Macallan 12 is bottled at 40% and offers an aroma of creamy butterscotch and sweet fruits from the sherry cask but also derives tons of vanilla, custard and spice from the American oak. On the palate you’ll find plenty of oak spices balanced with raisins and caramel.
