Following the release of rare 32-year-old Irish Single Malt, the team at Teeling are back to work, preparing another surprise for the Tribe
The Teeling Tribe, those superfans of the hardworking Teeling Distillery, are a loyal bunch and that loyalty is hugely important, explains James Yendole, who’s part of the distillery’s marketing team. With a direct line to the brand’s social media channels, he gets to monitor and engage with customers constantly, helping them find limited release bottles and put collectors together in the search for missing links in their own Teeling collections. “It’s a great feeling to be part of a bottle release event and then get feedback from customers directly, not just on how much they enjoy it but also on extending the tasting notes and the whiskey itself.”
The Teeling team are a small, close-knit group, he explains, and right now they are gearing up for the full reopening of the distillery. They’ve taken a staggered approach, opening for a few days to start but, later this month, they’ll be back to their normal seven-day coverage.
It’s a significant milestone for the team, following on from their recent release of Teeling 32-Year-Old Irish Single Malt. Limited to 750 signed and numbered bottles, it’s among the oldest bottlings of Irish Single Malt and one of the world’s most exclusive Irish whiskeys. It’s also a solid member of the Teeling Vintage Reserve Collection, which is a small series of very limited releases of rare and old Irish Single Malt whiskeys.
Originally distilled in 1988 and exclusively matured in ex-rum casks for its full 32 years, this hand-bottled 46% ABV small batch is a singular release. As Stephen Teeling commented at the launch, “there is nothing like these Irish Single Malts on the market and they represent a rare piece of Irish whiskey history.”
A large number of bottles were snapped up in pre-sales, and it has definitely caught the attention of collectors, but, James Yendole is also happy to report that quite a few buyers have already cracked open their bottles and are sharing their appreciation for its rich flavours of ripe fruits and berries, layered over malt and wood with a long decadent finish.
Teeling Distillery opened in 2015 but, in the short time since, it has laid an incredibly important foundation within Irish whiskey. With a trail of global and European awards in their wake, they are most proud of what has happened at home at the distillery, the impact it’s had on the local economy and the trail of surprise they are constantly laying for fans to follow.
September is shaping up to be a standout month for news from the distillery in Newmarket Square but lips are tightly sealed. In the meantime, if you want to try the Teeling 32-Year-Old by the glass, you’ll find it behind the bar at Gibney’s Malahide, Adare Manor, the Boathouse Restaurant at Farmleigh, and of course pop into the distillery itself.
