The GlenDronach 21 YO Parliament

Glendronach 21 Parliament is a rich and decadent single malt, matured for each of its 21 long years in both Pedro Ximenes and Oloroso sherry casks. Stuffed with fruit and intense spice, it’s political-sounding name was in fact chosen to honour the rooks that nest in the trees overlooking the distillery in the valley of Forgue near Aberdeenshire. (A Parliament is the collective name for a group of rooks.)

First introduced to the core range in 2011 it sits perfectly within the Glendronach range, which is well known for its 24- , 29- and 50-year-old releases. It has a deep amber colour with a cherry-wood sheen that reflects the viscosity of the liquid inside. You’ll find rich dark fruits on the nose with lots of sherry appeal as well as candied fruit and spice.

The palate is thick with chocolate and more sherry with layers of rich and heavy spice and sweetness from the Pedro Ximenes. The finish is as long as you might expect from a well-matured and decadent whisky, making this a beautifully slow and drawn out affair. Bottled at 48%, this release is perfectly suited to an after dinner drink, a perfect foil to an equally rich dessert.
