Glenallachie 15
Glenallachie 15 is made at the Glenallachie distillery in Speyside. It is located in the town of Aberlour and is one of the younger Scottish distilleries. Unlike many other Scottish distilleries that are hundreds of years old, Glenallachie was founded in 1967.
Who owns Glenallachie Distillery?
Glenallachie Distillery is an independent Speyside distillery owned by Master Blender Billy Walker, Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson. It is in private ownership and trades under the name Glenallachie Distillers Company. They bought the distillery in 2017 from its previous owners, Chivas Brothers. Since then, the distillery has carved a powerful position within Scottish distilling.
What does Glenallachie 15 taste like?
Glenallachie 15 uses sherry casks to finish the whisky, specifically oloroso sherry casks and Pedro Ximinez casks. It’s considered to be a very special expression of the Glendronach output and part of the distillery’s core range.
You’ll find waves of honey, dark figs, and lots of nutty elements in this fine single malt. Fruit cake and mocha also drive the aroma while on the palate you can expect lots of treacle, dark chocolate, sweet spices and honey syrup.
Its natural colour and elegant notes of fig syrup, dark chocolate and heather honey with ginger make it a frequent purchase by Glenallachie fans. This is a really good whisky, finished in Pedro Ximenez and oloroso casks.
Glenallachie is made in the official Speyside whisky region. Consequently it comes with all the sherry character you can imagine from this incredibly busy, whisky-heavy part of Scotland. One of Speyside’s defining characteristics is its use of sherry casks.
Glenallachie 15 has won many awards, including Gold at the International Spirits Awards, the World Whisky Awards and Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. It has quickly become a common part of the world whiskies landscape.
