How much is Teeling Whiskey worth?

Established in 2012, Teeling whiskey distillery is a young distillery with huge ambition. It has a loyal and global fanbase and has broken into the highest echelons of the global whiskey trade in the last ten years. With national, international and global awards behind it, the value of this family run distillery in Dublin city centre is constantly growing. The global spirits brand, Bacardi, bought a minor stake in the flagship Irish whiskey company in 2017 and at that time this was reported to put an enterprise valuation on the company of €80 million.

Since then, however, the company has grown considerably so that valuation will have grown. This award winning distillery recorded record profits in 2020. It was reported that the company saw a 71% increase in profits that year despite the closure of most businesses due to Covid. Its pre-tax profit rose to just under €2.8 million. This was a large jump in its 2019 profits of €1.6 million. Commentators attributed the growth to the reduction in advertising costs in the US during the Covid period and a reduction in other operational costs for the same reason, as well as increased demand for its products.

Who makes Teeling Irish whiskey?

Teeling Whiskey is made by the Teeling family, and in particular, the Teeling brothers Stephen Teeling and Jack Teeling. They are the majority shareholders along with a minority stake held by Bacardi, while their father, John Teeling, operates the Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk.

The Teeling Whiskey company based their distillery in the Liberties area of Dublin, a formally deprived inner city location that has begun to thrive in the years since the distillery opened. The distillery is on Newmarket Square, which was part of a traditional Dublin whiskey making area in the in the 18th century. The distillery on Marrowbone Lane is near the location of an ancestor of the Teeling family, Walter Teeling, who once had his own distillery here.

The older whiskey in the Teeling range comes from the former Cooley Distillery in Co Louth. This distillery was established by John Teeling, the brother’s father, before selling it to Beam Suntory. As part of that deal they negotiated to retain a large number of casks of vintage whiskey which they have been bottling as they wait for their own Teeling Distillery whiskey to mature. Since Teeling opened, the Irish whiskey industry has matured and developed considerably.
