Japanese cedarwood casks are relatively rare in Irish whiskey. The wood typically grows on the island of Yakushima and at altitudes of 500 metres or more and can live for 500 years or more. It is an incredibly robust wood that is tightly controlled by government regulation to ensure it is not over-used.
