Hunter Laing created the Old Malt Cask series to celebrate the very best single cask whiskies distilled across Scotland. It is an independent company that works with distilleries such as Laphroaig and many others to create singular releases.
Laphroaig 14-year-old malt cask was matured in a refill barrel to create a whisky that captures all the aroma, peat smoke, honey and leather of a classic Laphroaig.
On the nose you can expect lots of honey, heather, leather and smoke.
The palate of this fine single malt is refined and elegent, with lots of oak wood vanilla, stwed prunes and peat. It has a wonderful spice and viscosity.
With a long and lingering finish, the Laphroaig 14-year-old malt cask delivers lots of black pepper, dark fruit and peat.
Bottled at 50%, this classic release in the Old Malt Cask Range has a beautiful golden colour that is immediately noteworthy in the glass. The production methods use non-chill filtration and no colours are added. Only 347 of this batch 2 were bottled and in review stood shoulder-to-shoulder with its contemporaries.
Hunter Laing is a family business that has operated for more than three generations. With its headquarters based in Glasgow it has built relationships with the very best distilleries in Scotland, utilising the output of all the whisky regions – Islay, Highlands, Lowlands and Speyside.
It is a remarkable operation that celebrates and helps shape the very best of Scottish whisky making. In April 2019 it joined the ranks of whisky makers by opening its own distillery on Islay – Ardnahoe produces a distinctly peaty classic Islay whisky which upon delivery is expected to outshine many of its contemporaries.
