Glenallachie 12-Year-Old

Glenallachie 12 is the flagship single malt from this independently-owned Speyside distillery.

It is made at the Glenallachie Distillery in Speyside. Located in Aberlour, it sits at the foot of the Benrinnes hills. The water to make the whisky runs from these hills also and the region is well-known for its wild beauty.

Who owns the Glenallachie Distillery?

Glenallachie Distillery was opened in 1967 and from then until it was taken over in 2017 it was best known for its blends. These days it is led by a trio of the most experienced whisky makers in the business - Billy Walker, Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson. It is an independent distillery creating whisky expressions that feature diverse cask types.

The word Glenallachie translates from Scots Gaelic to mean the Valley of the Rocks.

Billy Walker is Master Blender and Master Distiller at Glenallachie. He is one of the best-known and most experienced whisky makers in world whiskies. He has worked across Scotland and the world producing expertly-casked whisky blends and single malts.

What does Glenallachie 12 taste like?

Glenallachie 12 is a combination of three cask types - virgin oak, oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. It has a huge flavour profile that includes a nutty flavour, slightly chocolatey layers as well as a distinctive sweet character that is incredibly popular.

This expression features whisky matured in three cask types - virgin oak casks, oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. Its longest maturation is in the virgin oak casks and then gets a lengthy finish in the two sherry casks.

Freshly cut oak is naturally a feature of the whisky but this is tempered with honey playing a part in this distinctive sweet whisky. The official tasting notes herald aromas of cinnamon, honey, butterscotch and sticky raisins while the palate delivers citrus zest, mocha, chocolate and damsons. It has a beautifully long finish.

Is Glenallachie 12 an award winner?

Glenallachie 12 year old has won many awards including Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and took 93 points at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge 2021.

Bottled at 46%, it is non-chill-filtered and has a natural colour that comes from the combination of sherry casks used in its maturation. It's a deep red-brown colour that is very appealing and indicative of how rich the whiskey in the bottle has become. This single malt scotch whisky is here to stay.
