Islands Scotch Whisky

From far north islands once home to Vikings, down past remote Hebridean outposts, to famous islands just off the mainland, the island whisky region of Scotland offers a great variety in whiskey style and taste. The islands themselves are as iconic as the distilleries on them. Such as Jura and Arran. Others wear their heritage on their sleeve, with Highland Park on the Orkney becoming a true island icon. Some of the characteristics of island whiskies include smoke and salty air, as much a part of the product process as well as the location of the maturing barrels. Despite the remoteness of some of these distilleries, it is a region that is also experiencing the current whiskey production boom. With new distilleries on the Outer Hebrides and on the Isle of Skye, no longer home to just Talisker. Further proof that the world is looking to experience whisky from all corners of Scotland.
