Glendronach 27

Matured in a single Oloroso sherry butt for an impressive 27 years. This is a single cask bottling and a UK market exclusive. Distilled back in 1992 and bottled in 2019.

Glendronach 27 is limited to just 613 bottles.

Collector’s Item

This bottle of Glendronach 27 was launched as a surefire collector’s item. A UK exclusive, numbering just 613 bottles, it was immediately snapped up and placed on every collector’s wishlist. Today there are only a small number of bottles in stock in retailers worldwide making this single malt whisky highly sought after by collectors.

it was created at the Glendronach distillery, one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. Located in the town of Forgue, Glendronach Distillery is a prestige whisky producer that celebrates the union of Scottish whisky and sherry maturation in every bottle.

Tasting notes

Matured for a full 27 years in a single oloroso sherry butt, this whisky’s quality and Glendronach grandeur can be witnessed on the aroma, palate and finish of the Glendronach 27.

Aroma
The nose of this fine single malt is rich and decadent, carrying notes of dark chocolate, dried fruit and walnuts from its time in sherry casks as well as darker notes of leather and oak.

Taste
The palate is equally rich, leading to layers of hazelnuts, raisins, cinnamon, dates and blackberries.

Finish
On the finish then, you will find the true decadence of Glendronach 27 with notes of lemon and ginger, nutmeg, oak and walnut. This 27-year-old single malt release has a long and luxuriant finish that places it among the richest Highland whiskies in the country.

ABV

Bottled at 49.5%, the almost three decades that this whisky spent in cask developed a highly complex and classic Glendronach character. Glendronach whisky is often described as having an elegant and complex taste with a large depth of flavour. It is said to typify the Highland region and seeks to continue the legacy of this great distillery that is built into every bottle.

Oloroso is a type of fortified wine produced in the Jerez in Spain, and a small number of other Spanish regions. The word Oloroso in Spanish refers to scent and the casks that produce it are wonderful partners to whisky, with a rich and dark residue left in the oak that marries perfectly with single malt.

Oloroso tends to drive flavours such as dark fruits, tobacco, spiced black pepper and nuts into the whisky and these blend perfectly with the maturing spirit, as can be witnessed in the Glendronach 27 whisky. Glendronach Distillery has a long tradition of maturing in oloroso casks, creating the rich sherried whisky style that Glendronach is well-known for.

The Core range

While this limited edition bottling is restricted to just 613 bottles the core range from Glendronach is something that you can return to every day – if you can find it.

The distillery produces four core bottles: the Glendronach Original which is 12 years old; the Glendronach Revival which is 15 years old; the Glendronach Allardice which is 18 years old; and the Glendronach Parliament at 21 years old. Each of these whiskies takes the drinker on a journey through the maturation and casking of the classic Glendronach Distillery style, from which the Glendronach 27 evolves from.

Beyond the core range

Beyond the core range then, you will find a large back catalogue of special releases, single casks, the Glendronach Grandeur range as well a long line of archived series and current bottlings that create and underpin the Glendronach name.

Each of these is based on the responsible and world-class production processes that help the brand continually make review headlines and ensure Glendronach stock is always in demand wherever it is on sale. This 27-year-old whisky sits perfectly in that lineup.
