Exclusively bottled for The Single Malt Shop this Highland Park 18 year old single cask has been chosen from the most exceptional Highland Park casks available by master whisky maker Gordon Motion. Distilled in 2002, it was matured in a single refil sherry butt (cask no 90001) and bottled in 2021.

Gordon Motion, Highland Park, master whisky maker explains: “When it comes to whisky that’s matured for 18 years and more, I have fewer casks to choose from so those in our Single Cask Series are, quite simply, the most exceptional Highland Park casks available.” He continues: “Some of our most outstanding single cask bottlings come from refill casks, as they have often previously held whisky for only a short period of time, so have much to give in subsequent maturation. I chose this cask for The Single Malt Shop due to its interesting and exciting flavour profile to offer something special for their whisky fans.”

Nose: Opens with rich aromas of orchard fruits and burnt heather. The honey sweet flavours then come to the fore, followed by a big chocolate and roasted almonds punch. Totally indulgent

Taste: As expected this is a rich, full-bodied dram. Dry on the tongue with those chocolately, cinnamon, spicy characteristics ever present. Toasted oak then takes over but the chocolate flavours shine through.

Finish: a long, unctious finish with more sweetness replacing the initial dryness. The smoky, floral peat flavours now emerge leaving a delicious taste that lingers in the mouth.

Glen’s comments; “a remarkable, very special and truly indulgent dram. The perfect balace between dry and sweet, oaky and smoky. Just wonderful”.

Highland Park 18 Single Cask

This exemplary bottle is one of only 515 created as an exclusive collaboration between Highland Park Distillery and the Single Malt Shop. Distilled in 2002, it was matured in a refill butt and bottled in 2021 at 57.4% ABV.

Matured in a sherry-seasoned European oak cask, it is brimming with dark fruit, oak spice and Highland Park DNA.

What makes Highland Park’s whisky special?

Located in the town of Kirkwall, the capital of Orkney’s largest island (also known as the mainland to locals), Highland Park is a distillery of prestige.

Its owners, Edrington, are rarely behind the curve when giving whisky brands room to grow. One of the most-coveted whisky brands in the world is already in Edrington’s stable – The Macallan – while another sibling in the group – the Glenrothes – is steadily gathering pace in Highland Park’s wake.

Undoubtedly, Edrington has the ambition as well as the resources to make Highland Park a global name, but in doing so, it is holding fast to the island distillery’s home place. If ever a whisky was truly rooted in its environment, then Highland Park is it.

What separates Highland Park from the rest of the Highland Park range?

The standard 18-year-old from Highland Park is a much-loved permanent bottling from the Orkney Islands distillery. This special edition takes that same level of maturation and pushes it to the limit in a single cask that’s bottled at cask strength.

This stunning release from the Orkney Islands’ distillery matured for 18 years in a refill sherry-seasoned European oak cask. Hand-selected by master whisky maker Gordon Motion, its goal was to amplify and perfect the signature flavour of the Highland Park range.
