Glenfarclas 15
Sherry, butterscotch and dried fruit on the nose, along with a palate of sherried sweetness and malt. The finish is packed with sherried sweetness
Glenfarclas 15 is a wonderful single malt scotch whisky and hugely popular with fans of the family-owned distillery in Speyside.
The Grant family have owned the distillery since 1865 and are one of the very few family-owned independent whisky distilleries left in Scotland.
This release has light butterscotch aromas and peaty flavours with a sweetness and dried fruit that often evokes a sense of Christmas cake in its malty tones.
There is superb balance in this deliciously peated pour which has a full-bodied and complex character.
Official tasting notes
Aroma
You’ll find a hint of orange peel on the nose of this gloriously sherried whisky. It’s a mellow aroma that comes from its layers of raisins and gently smoky personality.
Taste
On the palate you’ll find lots of dried fruit, sweet and nutty sherry notes and lots of vanilla.
Finish
The finish on Glenfarclas 15-year-old is long and satisfying with a wonderfully rich texture.
Glenfarclas distillery is a Speyside whisky maker as well as being in the Highlands. This double regional focus has drawn many distilleries and whisky fans to the region, and while less-well known than its peers, Glenfarclas creates a really good whisky at a reasonable price.
This bottle is one of its most successful single malt whisky releases due in large part to its delicious palate and sweet complexity.
Distilled on a rolling basis as part of the core range at the distillery, it is bottled at an ABV of 46%, which is slightly higher than the other core releases. Fans of this exemplary single malt Scotch whisky are impressed not just by its flavour and texture but also by its provenance and individuality in a country as dominant in the whisky world as Scotland.
The light butterscotch aromas and peaty flavours of this delicious dram combined with its family heritage allow this whisky to rise above many others in the Speyside region.
